The Communications Directorate is headed by the Communications Director and Deputy Communications Director. It is made up of Communications Bureau members and Local Communications Directors. The Communications Bureau works to build and maintain the brand of the Society through all the Society’s social media platforms that is; Instagram, LinkedIn, X and TikTok. The Communications Bureau creates content that aligns with the mission, objectives and strategic goals of the Kenya Model United Nations. Graphic Designers, Photographers, Videographers, Writers, Web Developers and Social Media Managers form the Communications Bureau.

Photographers

They capture photographs that convey the organisation’s message. Photographers ensure that all visual content aligns with the organisation’s brand identity and messaging. They document important events, meetings and activities with the organisation, providing a visual record for future reference or promotional purposes.

Graphic Designers

They design posters and visual content that established the organisation’s brand identity.

  • Graphic Designers produce a wide range of visual content that includes brochures, posters and digital graphics for important information.
  • Graphic Designers maintain brand consistency by applying guidelines to all visual materials and collateral produced by the organisation.
  • Graphic Designers collaboratively work with other members of the Communications Bureau and other Bureaus within the Kenya Model United Nations to ensure cohesive visual information across various social media platforms.

Writers

They write various types of content including articles, newsletters and convey the organisation’s messages and stories.

  • Writers craft captivating and compelling narratives creatively that effectively communicate the organisation’s mission, vision, values, achievements, initiatives, events and panel discussions.
  • They develop clear and concise messaging for different communications channels, ensuring consistency and alignment with the organisation's goals and branding.
  • Writers conduct research on relevant topics, gather information and analyse data to inform their writing and ensure accuracy and credibility.
  • Tailor content for different audiences depending for various social media platforms and communications channels and formats optimising it for readability and audience engagement.

Social Media Managers

Develop and implement social media content strategies aligned with the organisation’s mission, objectives, vision and strategic goals of the Society.

  • Create original content and curate relevant content from other sources to engage with the organisation’s audience.
  • Community Engagement. They interact with followers, respond to comments and messages and foster a sense of community around the organisation’s social media platforms.
  • They plan and execute social media strategies to promote events, initiatives, products or services, leveraging various platforms and tools to ensure effective communication. Analyse audience demographics, behaviour engagement metrics to optimise content and strategy for better reach and impact.
  • Monitor social media platforms for social media mentions and repost them on social media, address any negative feedback or complaints promptly and manage the organisation’s online reputation.
  • Collaborate with members, stakeholders and partners to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to social media management.
  • Stay updated about emerging trends best practices and changes in social media algorithms and platforms to adapt to strategies accordingly to maintain relevance.

Local Communications Directors

The Local Communications Directors is made up of the Local Communications Directors and Local Deputy Communications Directors that manage and maintain the local chapters' social media platforms.

ROLES OF THE COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTORS

The Roles of the Local Communications Directors and Deputy Communications Directors is to:

  1. Continuously create awareness of the Kenya Model United Nations in their various chapters by keeping the members up-to-date on the recent events of Kenya Model United Nations. That is through making and sharing of posters, photos and videos that align with the mission, objectives, vision and strategic goals of the Society to the Chapter’s social media platforms.
  2. The Communications Director and Deputy Communications Director oversee the work of the Communications Directors to ensure the KMUN local chapters' social media platforms are always active.

Ivans Mwongera Kinyua, is currently in his third year of study at The Catholic University of Eastern Africa, pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Law. He currently serves as the 24th Session Communications Director. Other courses he has done include Advanced Digital Marketing. Ivans is passionate about Communications and Media Relations. He'd love to work as a Legal and Communications expert for International Organisations.
