Our History
Kenya Model United Nations is a non-profit, student-run society affiliated to the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) at the United Nations Office in Nairobi. The Model United Nations was initiated in Kenya in 2001 by Mr Ronald Osumba of Moi University with the organization then being referred to as Kenya Model United Nations (Kenya MUN). Kenya MUN held its first conference in 2002 and has since held this event annually in February or March at UNON, Gigiri.

Mission
To embrace the spirit of the United Nations by inspiring a culture of virtuous leadership among the youth through creating a platform for intellectual debate and a network for proactive solution development to local as well as global issues; for the betterment of our members and our community as a whole. We have a vast outreach to young, smart and energetic university students who are drivers of change with a mindset of structured development.

The General Assembly
The General Assembly includes all 193 United Nations members, placing this unique forum at the UN's deliberative, policy-making, and representative core. General Assembly committees are the largest at KMUN, with 100 to 400 delegates each. Delegates' negotiation and diplomacy skills will undoubtedly improve both inside and outside of the committee room.

The International Law Commission (ILC) is the United Nations' codification body, and it is simulated in Kenya Model United Nations. The ILC strives to hold insightful and intellectually stimulating debates in which commissioners apply their knowledge of public international law in a fun and engaging manner, all while working towards the ILC's main goal of promoting the progressive development of international law and its codification.
